How GPA Is Calculated
The 4.0 Scale
Each letter grade corresponds to a grade point value on a 4.0 scale: A (4.0), A- (3.7), B+ (3.3), B (3.0), B- (2.7), C+ (2.3), C (2.0), C- (1.7), D+ (1.3), D (1.0), F (0.0).
Weighted by Credits
Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours. The sum of all weighted grade points is divided by the total credits to get your cumulative GPA.
Target GPA Planning
Use the Target GPA Planner to determine what GPA you need in upcoming courses to reach your overall goal. Enter your target GPA and the number of new credits to see the required GPA.
Tips for Improvement
Focus on higher-credit courses — they have a bigger impact on your GPA. Even small improvements in a 4-credit class can meaningfully move your cumulative average.
