How Portfolio Health Is Calculated
Portfolio health measures how well proposed projects move through the approval funnel. The approval rate is approved ÷ submitted × 100, the rejection rate is rejected ÷ submitted × 100, and pending proposals are submitted − approved − rejected.
The headline health score is (approved − rejected) ÷ submitted × 100. A positive score means more proposals are being approved than rejected; a negative score signals a portfolio whose intake is largely being turned away.
Why It Matters
PPM (Project Portfolio Management) teams use intake funnel health to spot bottlenecks in governance: a high rejection rate can signal misaligned criteria, while a large pending backlog points to slow decision cadence.
